My father is Made Suteja, an elementary school teacher, and my mother is Wayan Tantri; very loyal to family. They are the best to me. I have learned so many things from them, including Balinese dances, how to play traditional Balinese music, and other aspects of Balinese art and culture. Even when I started to love painting more than other endeavors, they gave me great support and suggested that I study at the School of Art in Denpasar before continuing on to IKIP (Institute for Teacher Training). Apart from what I was taught in school I also learned painting from a senior painter, Gung Man. "Landscapes, temples, rice fields and flowers are the common themes of my paintings. There is a reason why I choose these themes. When Big And Tall buildings began to flourish all over the small island of Bali, landscapes, rice fields, and temples started to disappear. Painting is a way to express my thoughts about taking care of Bali. When people refer to Bali as the island of a thousand temples, it is assumed that Bali really has a thousand temples, and that it isn't merely a name.
